Roland Hetzer visited the Holbein-Gymnasium Augsburg . After high school he studied from 1963 medicine at the University of Mainz , before moving to 1964 to the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich . In 1969 he made then the state exam and the American ECFMG exam. In the same year his doctorate he to Dr. med. [1] In 1970 he was approved . After subsequent work as a medical assistant in Augsburg Roland Hetzer took in 1971 a position as a research assistant at the Hannover Medical School and went in 1976 as a Clinical Fellow at the California Pacific Medical Center and Stanford University , where Norman Shumway performed pioneered heart surgery. In 1977 he became a specialist for surgery. Upon his return to Germany he worked as a senior physician in Hannover from 1978th There habilitation he 1979. [2] In 1983 he received an extraordinary professorship and started in the same year in Hannover heart transplant to establish. With the appointment of Professor Hetzer came 1985 to Berlin at the Free University and built as a senior physician of cardiac surgery and medical director the German Heart Institute Berlin (DHZB) on. In 1987 he took over the first successful implantation of an artificial heart before. In 1990, he was the last chairman of the West Berlin part of the Berlin Surgical Society . For October 1, 2014 Hetzer joined as Medical Director and Director of the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery of DHZB to retirement; Successor is Volkmar Falk . [3] For his achievements Hetzer in 1987 with the Order of Merit of Berlin and 1995 for the establishment of the Academy of Cardiovascular and related state recognition of training as perfusionist, with the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class Award. He is since 2009 Chairman of the European register of patients with mechanical circulatory support e. V., Euromacs. Roland Hetzer is married and father of four children. His brother Gerhard Hetzer's manager (director) of the Bavarian State Archives in Munich. Roland Hetzer is a member of the Catholic Fraternity K.St.V. Ludovicia Augsburg in KV .

Raimund Erbel has completed his MD at the age of 25 years from Düsseldorf University and postdoctoral studies from Düsseldorf universities as well. He spent two years at the Military Hospital in Koblenz, followed by a research time in Aachen with Prof Effert. He became consultant for Internal Medicine was provided in 1981, Cardiology in 1982. Professor Ulf Landmesser acts since October 2014 as Chairman of the Department of Cardiology at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (CBF). After his medical studies at the Medical School of Hannover, the University of Connecticut in Farmington (USA) and the National Heart&Lung Institute in London, he specialised in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the Medical School of Hannover. In 2000/2001 he performed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Department of Cardiology at the Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta (USA) as a scholar of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He was then appointed Consultant Cardiologist at the Medical School of Hanover, Germany. In 2007, he was called as Senior Consultant Cardiologist with a focus on acute and interventional cardiology as well as on translational cardiovascular research to the Department of Cardiology at the University Hospital of Zurich, where he later acted as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Cardiology. He received the Götz Award in 2012, the official award of the medical faculty of the University of Zurich. He serves since 2008 as Deputy Editor of the European Heart Journal.

Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Schlüter, born 09.07.1959, studied biology at the Westfälische-Wilhelms-University, Münster, Germany. He made his PhD at Gesellschaft für Biotechnologische Forschung, Braunschweig, Germany, and spent his Post-Doc education at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, Germany. In 2002 he became professor for physiology at Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen, Germany. Research areas are biology of cardiomyocytes, hypertensive heart disease, and ischemia/reperfusion. He published over 100 original articles and several review articles, editorials and book chapters. Current activities include editing of a book entitled “Cardiomyocytes – Active players in cardiac disease”. He is member of the German Society of Cardiology and of the German Physiological Society.

Fabiola Sozzi works as a practicing cardiologist at the University Hospital Policlinico of Milan, IT. She worked in the Echolab of the Thoraxcentre, Rotterdam, NL where she defended her PhD thesis on cardiac imaging under the supervision of Professor Roelandt. Guy H Fontaine has made 15 original contributions in the design and the use of the first cardiac pace makers in the early 60s.He has serendipitously identified ARVD during antiarrhythmic surgery in the early 70s. He has developed the technique of Fulguration to replace surgery in the early 80s. He has been one of the 216 individual who has made a significant contribution to the study of cardiovascular disease since the 14th century and one of the 500 greatest geniuses of the 21th Century (USA Books), one of the 100 life time of achievement (UK Book). He has > 900 publications including 201 book chapters. Reviewer of 17 scientific journals both in basic and clinical science. He has given 11 master lectures of 90 minutes each in inland China in 2014. He is now developing new techniques for brain protection in OHCA, stroke and spinal cord injury by hypothermia.

Bijoy K Khandheria, MD, is the Chair of the Division of Cardiovascular Disease at Mayo Clinic. He holds a joint appointment as a consultant in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at the Mayo Clinic. He is also the Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and sits as Chair of the Mayo Clinic Information Management and Technology Committee, which facilitates and implements an electronic environment and oversees all information technology projects for the Mayo Clinic. He assumed the presidency of ASE in June 2005, having previously served as Vice President, the Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, and member of the Board of Directors.
