Biography
Dr. Sohal did his MD from the University of Alberta and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Saskatchewan. He did his residency training in family medicine from the University of British Columbia. At present, he is a Family Physician and a Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Family Practice, University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Dr. Sohal has published numerous research papers and presented abstracts at various national/international meetings. His main area of interest is prevention and management of diabetes particularly in South Asians. Dr. Sohal has been working with the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) both at the local and national levels since 2002. Dr. Sohal was a member of the CDA 2008 Clinical Practice Guidelines Expert Committee for the prevention and management of diabetes in Canada. He has received several awards including CDA 2009 National Volunteer of the Year Award and 2014 Frederick Banting Award from the CDA. He was awarded 2014 Canada’s Family Physician of the Year Award for BC by the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
