Biography

Eckhard Nagel Born in 1960, since September 2010 he is known for the position of Medical Director of the University Hospital Essen. Previously, he was chief physician of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery and director of the transplant center at Klinikum Augsburg. As managing director of the Institute for Health Care Management and Health Sciences of the University of Bayreuth. Eckhard Nagel studied medicine in Hannover, Vermont, Dumfries, Grenoble and New Hampshire. After completing his doctorate to the Dr. med., He worked as a research assistant and senior physician at the Medical University of Hannover, where he also qualified as a professor in 1997. In addition, he studied philosophy and history in Hannover and received his doctorate in 1995 for Dr. phil. currently he is a member of various committees and working groups of the German Medical Association and since December 2000 Chairman of the Board of the Rudolf Pichlmayr Foundation and leader of Sonderkrankenanstalt »Rehabilitation after organ transplantation - Ederhof" in Stronach, Eastern Tyrol, Austria. Since 2001 he has been in the presidium of the German Protestant Kirchentag and was from 2003 to 2005 President of the Kirchentag Hannover. He was appointed in 2002 by the federal government in the Rürup Commission for Sustainability in Financing the Social Security Systems, was a founding member of the National Ethics Council set up in 2001

Research Interest

His core operational and strategic areas are research and teaching in the area of healthcare management and health sciences along with a strong health economic bias. In his view both areas are closely linked and accordingly teaching is subject to continuous innovation and improvement processes driven by his research programs.
