Neuroimmunology is a field combining neuroscience, the study of the nervous system, and immunology, the study of the immune system. Clinical and Experimental Neuroimmunology covers neuroscience, basic immunology, clinical neurology and neurovirology, if the subject matter is targeting the interface between neuroscience and immunology or is relevant for optimizing treatment of neuroimmunological disorders including multiple sclerosis, polymyositis/dermatomyositis, myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré syndrome and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. Neuroimmunology, the study of the interaction between our central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) and our immune system, melds these two disciplines. Neuroimmunologists treat neurological disorders caused by inflammation or autoimmunity in the nervous system.
